EVOH (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer), is a plastic known for keeping gases out. You’ll often see it in food packaging, medical supplies, and protective gear for cars and electronics. Because it contains a lot of vinyl acetate, it does a great job blocking gases like oxygen and nitrogen, which helps food stay fresh longer.
The reason EVOH is so effective at this is because of its tightly packed structure, which makes it harder for gas molecules to sneak through. Manufacturers can tweak the hydrolysis level during production, and when they increase it, the molecular chains become tighter, improving its gas-blocking abilities.
