  • Application of PVA in 3D printing technology
    Oct 26, 2020
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a water-soluble polymer, not to be confused with PVAc or polyvinyl acetate, which is a water-soluble white glue. In 3D printing, polyvinyl alcohol is popular as a support material because it is water-soluble.   For 3D printing, PVA is the most well-known support material used in  dual-extrusion 3D printers. Typically, fused deposition modeling (FDM) machines use the same material to create the prin ted part and any support structures because there is only one extruder. Depending on the location of the support, removing the support can be a tricky job, not to mention the ugly marks  it can leave on the part. Dual extrusion FDM printers, on the other hand, allow the use of different materials for parts and brackets, which is where PVA comes in handy.     The best advantage of PVA filament is that it is water-soluble, and the printed support structure simply needs to be soaked in water for a few hours. This method also prevents any marks from being left on the part and reduces the need for post-processing such as sanding. It's not as simple as it sounds, dual extrusion can be quite tough and requires a lot of calibration to get a high quality 3D print. As a support material, PVA generally works well with PLA filament because it requires similar printing conditions. PLA is a hydrophobic material, which means it does not "like" water, so if a PLA part is printed with a PVA support, only the support will dissolve in the water, leaving the other part in perfect condition.   Website: www.elephchem.com Whatsapp: (+)86 13851435272 E-mail: admin@elephchem.com ElephChem Holding Limited, professional market expert in Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) and Vinyl Acetate–ethylene Copolymer Emulsion(VAE) with strong recognition and excellent plant facilities of international standards.

  • Properties of Polyvinyl Alcohol
    Oct 16, 2020
The widespread application of polyvinyl alcohol in various industries benefits from its many excellent properties, such as:   1. Solubility: PVA powder can be dissolved in water. The PVA resin with an alcoholysis degree of less than 95% can be dissolved in room temperature water, and another one with an alcoholysis degree of more than 99.5% can only be dissolved in hot water above 95℃.   2. Thermal stability: Polyvinyl alcohol softens when heated and does not change significantly below 40℃. Glass transition temperature: 75~85℃. It slowly changes color and becomes brittle when heated to above 100℃. Above 160℃, long-term heating will gradually color, dehydrate, etherify, and lose solubility; above 220℃, it will decompose to generate water, acetic acid, acetaldehyde, and crotonaldehyde; above 250℃, it will become containing conjugated double bonds polymer.   3. Chemical resistance: PVA is almost unaffected by weak acids, weak bases or organic solvents, and has high oil resistance.   4. Storage stability: PVA is a low-viscosity polymer, and its aqueous solution is very stable at room temperature. The aqueous solution will not deteriorate during storage.   5. Film-forming properties: Due to the high adhesion between PVA molecules, PVA is easy to form films. The formed film is colorless and transparent, has good mechanical strength, has a smooth surface without being sticky, and has good solvent resistance. The molecular film has good light transmittance, high moisture permeability, is uncharged, does not absorb dust, and has good printability.   6. Chemical properties: PVA is almost unaffected by weak acids, weak bases or organic solvents, and has high oil resistance. It can be regarded as a linear polymer with secondary hydroxyl groups. The hydroxyl group in the molecule has high activity and can carry out typical chemical reactions of low alcohols, such as esterification, etherification, acetalization, etc., and can also react with many inorganic compounds or organic compounds.   Website: www.elephchem.com Whatsapp: (+)86 13851435272 E-mail: admin@elephchem.com ElephChem Holding Limited, professional market expert in Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) and Vinyl Acetate–ethylene Copolymer Emulsion(VAE) with strong recognition and excellent plant facilities of international standards.

  • Application of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) in adhesives
    Sep 09, 2020
The aqueous solution of PVA has extremely strong adhesion to materials containing cellulose (such as paper, cloth, wood, etc.) and has the advantage of being safe and non-toxic. It can be used for cardboard lamination, corrugated cardboard bonding and office glue. Kraft bags used for packaging heavy items such as cement, fertilizers, grain, etc. also use PVA as an adhesive.   Urea-formaldehyde resin and phenolic resin modified with PVA can be used as adhesives for laminates and artificial panels.   PVA aqueous solution (by adding appropriate fillers and additives) can also be widely used to prepare adhesives required for printing and binding paper tubes, cartons and other paper links.   PVA condenses with formaldehyde, butyraldehyde, glyoxal or other aldehydes under acid catalysis to produce polyvinyl acetals (such as PVAF, PVB) with stronger water resistance, adhesion and mechanical strength. ) is widely used in construction, coatings, adhesives, safety glass interlayers and other fields. As the degree of polymerization of PVA increases, the viscosity of the acetal increases.   PVA is an excellent protective colloid and dispersant for the homopolymerization of vinyl acetate or copolymerization with other monomers to produce emulsions (white glue), and is crucial in the production of white glue. Generally, as the degree of polymerization of PVA increases, the viscosity of the produced emulsion increases. Partial alcoholysis polyvinyl alcohol (such as PVA 17-88, PVA 24-88) is often used in combination with fully alcoholysis polyvinyl alcohol(PVA 17-99). The use of partially alcoholytic PVA can increase the stability of the emulsion. Use Completely alcoholylated PVA can increase the water resistance of emulsions.   Website: www.elephchem.com Whatsapp: (+)86 13851435272 E-mail: admin@elephchem.com ElephChem Holding Limited, professional market expert in Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) and Vinyl Acetate–ethylene Copolymer Emulsion(VAE) with strong recognition and excellent plant facilities of international standards.   PVA 2488 &088-50   PVA 1788 & 088-20   PVA 17-99 & 100-27
