Overview
Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is a colorless flammable liquid with sweet ether flavor. There are several different raw materials such as acetylene method, ethylene method, acetaldehyde acetic anhydride and so on. The route of ethylene raw materials is different according to the process, and there are different methods such as ethylene gas phase method and ethylene liquid phase method.
General properties
Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is miscible with ethanol, soluble in ether, acetone, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvents, insoluble in water. It is easily polymerized into a transparent solid by the action of heat, light or trace amounts of peroxide. Usually hydroquinone or diphenylamine is added as a stabilizer, and the storage time of pure products without stabilizers should not exceed 24h.iscible with ethanol, soluble in ether, acetone, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvents, insoluble in water. Applications
Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is the main raw material for the manufacture of synthetic fiber vinylon. Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is polymerized by itself or copolymerized with fractionated monomers to obtain polyvinyl alcohol, vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (EVA), vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer (EVC), vinyl acetate-acrylonitrile fiber, vinyl acetate-acrylate copolymer. They all have important industrial uses, widely used as binders, architectural coatings, textile sizing and finishing agents, paper reinforcements, and for the manufacture of safety glass.
Vinyl acetate reacts with ethanol and bromine to prepare bromoacetaldehyde diethanol. This is an intermediate of the drug methiimidazole.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) / Vinyl Acetate??
A: Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is an essential, colorless liquid chemical intermediate with a sweet ether-like odor. It is the primary raw material used to synthesize Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) and Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene (VAE) emulsions.
Q: What is VAM role in VAE production?
A: In VAE production, VAM copolymerizes with ethylene gas under high pressure. VAM forms the main backbone of the polymer chain, providing high mechanical strength, excellent cohesion, and strong adhesion to cellulose, wood, paper, and mineral substrates.
Q: How do raw material supply chains for VAM impact VAE emulsion availability and pricing?
A: VAM represents the largest raw material cost component of VAE emulsions. VAM supply is influenced by upstream petrochemical feedstocks (Ethylene and Acetic Acid / Natural Gas) as well as global production plant maintenance turnarounds.
By partnering with integrated suppliers who maintain long-term, strategic VAM supply agreements and robust raw material storage, customers are guaranteed competitive pricing, uninterrupted order fulfillment, and stable VAE product quality even during global supply chain fluctuations.
Q: Is vinyl acetate a VOC (volatile organic compound)?
A: VOCs are compounds that have high vapor pressure and low water solubility, and many are man-made chemicals used and produced in the manufacture of paints, pharmaceuticals, and refrigerants. The VOCs of polyethylene vinyl acetate plastic are toxic to living organisms or animals.
